Last Tuesday the governing board of ACEVIN – Association of Small and Medium Wine Cities – held their meeting in the Turespaña headquarters in Madrid. The Tourism councillor, Ms. Juana Guardiola Verdú, and the Economy and Employment Head of Service, Mr. Ángel Pérez Sánchez, attended in representation of the mayor.

Amongst the agreements reached in that meeting was the approval of the distinction of the Jumilla Wine Tour as a Spanish Wine Tour that, together with Montilla, Mancha-Valdepeñas, Utiel-Requena, Rías Baixas and Penedés, represent, according to Juana Guardiola, “the only tours that have so far obtained this distinction, which is synonymous with quality wine tourism”.

The municipal councillor went on to explain that “this certification has been obtained after hard work on the part of the Local Council initially and later through collaboration with the CBDO Jumilla and with the entrepreneurs which are part of the Wine Tour Association. She went on to explain that this has been a four-year proces in which there has been collaboration with ACEVIN and the National Secretariat of Tourism. This was carried out in different stages since there have been no previous events of this type, and the manual for Spanish Wine Tours as well as the evaluation rules and self-regulation had to be prepared.

With this recognition and the start of the Tourist Office, the municipal councillor, Juana Guardiola, believes that “we have taken giant steps in this sector which we hope will be a new economic driving force for the population in the following years.”
